From wellness to mountains

The day before we came up the mountains in the dark. It was a little bit scaring because we did not see a thing.This morning we enjoy the slightly cool wind and can see first hills so close. In the evening we visited the hot spring which is related to the hotel, so a real luxury one. We enjoy sauna, mud bath und whirlpool for quite a while. Very convenient.

We could have done this in our room, more an appartment, too. Two sinks are placed outside the room - one for mud water, the other one used for hot clear water. Luxury.

Following breakfast we move on to FenchiHu. We decide to take the road throughout the mountain side. It is going to be a very winding trip up and down the hills again and again. More than 38 U-turns and about 1000 meter downhill we go once. We arrive late. Later then expected. But still time to run up onto the first top.

Into the forest

Although very foggy weather and some light rain we take the Dadong Mountain Trail. It offers different round trips up to three hours of walking. Quickly starting we take the trail anti clockwise.

The path heads downhill through a staircase carved into rock. It is sand stone with layers of different color washed out strangely by wind and water. From time to time one needs to make himeslf very small to tresspass cave like structures. Amazing.

Half an hour later we reach the bottom line of the big round trip. We stay in a light forest. The fog is condensing and everything is covered by mysterious light.

The first top

Another hour later we have climbed the summit: Mt Dadong, 1952 meter altidude. Nice view we propably would have. Instead the fog is that dense we can't see a thing. But it was fine to have a little bit of fresh air and some praticing outside.

The way back to the car is well signed and it takes us another half an hour to reach our starting point.

And a cool beer in the evening

After a short break in the hotel room and some refreshment we walked the local night market. Looks like the only street in town. Lots of small shops and restaurants are located one after the other on both sides of the street.

At the end we find a suitable restaurant and get something to eat and get a Taiwan beer.

Next morning we will go to see the sunrise in AliShan. This means get up at 3 am! Somehow exhausted we get to bed early.
